Final exam & international grading FAQs
How do I calculate what score I need on my final exam?
Multiply your current coursework grade by the percentage weight of your completed coursework, subtract that from your target overall grade, and divide by the weight of your final exam. Select USA, UK, Canada or Germany in the calculator above to compute it automatically.
How do UK university module marks map to First-Class, 2:1 and 2:2 Honours?
At most UK universities, 70% and above is First-Class Honours (1st), 60% to 69% is Upper Second-Class Honours (2:1), 50% to 59% is Lower Second-Class Honours (2:2), 40% to 49% is Third-Class Honours (3rd), and below 40% is a fail.
How does the German Modified Bavarian Formula (Modifizierte Bayerische Formel) work?
German universities use the formula 1 + 3 * ((N_max - N_earned) / (N_max - N_min)), where N_max is the highest possible score, N_min is the minimum passing score, and N_earned is your score. On the German scale, 1.0 is the best grade (Sehr gut) and 4.0 is the minimum passing grade (Ausreichend).
